Army ROTC Cadets picking up the recycling and waste left in the stands after the last home football game of the 2019 season.

2019 football season – Folsom Field Stadium – 24 November 2019:

The Army ROTC Golden Buffalo Battalion came out in force this past Sunday morning to conduct the final Stadium clean-up of the 2019 football season. They all met bright and early at 5:45 a.m. in the cold brisk morning air. Even though most students have already left for the fall break, the Army ROTC Cadets delayed their departure to help with the clean-up. Each military unit on campus is contracted by the CU Athletics department to work two clean-ups of the Folsom Stadium after each home football game, including the Franklin Field tailgate lot and the immediate perimeter around the Stadium.

The first tasks of the morning were to go through each stand section and manually pick-up the remaining recycling and food waste that was left over by the football fans. The cans and bottles are placed into a clear recycling bag. The food waste and compostable paper products are tossed into a green compost bag. All other items that are not recyclable (like candy wrappers, plastic bags, hand-wipes, etc.) are placed into a black trash bag.

Once all of the bigger pieces are removed, then another sweep of the stadium is carried out with brooms and leaf-blowers. The remnants captured are considered trash and placed into the black bags.
The payment received from this contract goes towards program enrichment and Cadet related events.

The Army ROTC Golden Buffalo Battalion would like to thank the CU Athletics department for providing this “fundraising” opportunity.
