Brigadier General Stephen D. Mundt graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  Upon commissioning as an active duty Second Lieutenant, he completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course.  In 1980 he completed the Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course and is also a 1983 graduate of the Armor Officer Advanced Course.  Brigadier General Mundt is a 1991 graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, a 1997 graduate of the National War College, and holds a Master of Business Administration in Personnel Management/Administration as well as a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies.

Brigadier General Mundt has commanded at the company, troop, squadron, battalion, and brigade levels, serving with the 1-8 Infantry, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized); 8th Combat Aviation Battalion, 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized); Division Material Management Center Company, 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized); Project Officer and later Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Aviation Center; 8th Aviation Battalion, Aviation Training Brigade; Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized); 2nd Battalion, 4th Aviation, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized); 17th Aviation Brigade, 8th Army; and 1st Infantry, 7th Army.  He deployed with the 1st Infantry Division as the Assistant Division Commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2004 to April 2005.

Brigadier General Mundt’s awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.

He formerly served as the Deputy Director, Readiness Programming and Assessment, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Readiness), Washington, D.C.; Headquarters, Department of the Army, Deputy Chief of Staff (G3), Director of Army Aviation; and now, since 2008, serves as the Vice President, Business Development for EADS North America, the world’s second largest aerospace and defense company.

Brigadier General Mundt is married to the former Betsy Head of Colorado Springs, CO.
