In that capacity he also taught courses in management and communications for ROTC and as an Adjunct Professor of Economics and Business at CSM, along with lecturing in management at Arapahoe Community College. COL Spaulding and his wife, Janet, planned and coordinated annual trips for McBride Honors students to Washington DC to meet Colorado legislators and to visit foreign embassies to better understand public policy and leadership. He was instrumental in organizing the Honorary Colonels of the 115th Engineer Regiment and the subsequent successful campaign to gain support to keep ROTC on the Mines campus.

Following retirement from CSM, COL Spaulding consulted on student insurance and an emergency alert system. He assisted CSM develop the Petroleum Institute in the United Arab Emirates, preparing the Student Policy Manual, course schedule, a leadership class curriculum, and serving as Interim Registrar.
