Franklin is a queer-identified, first-generation Nigerian American who was born and raised in Southern California. He holds a BA in Sociology and Black Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MA in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University. Presently, Franklin is a doctoral student in the School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder, pursuing a Ph.D. in the Educational Foundations, Policy, and Practice (EFPP) program.

His research interest examines the relationship between the pursuit of joy and the lived experiences of Black LGBTQ men in higher education. This interest is driven by his own intersectional experiences in academic settings and navigating spaces that tend to alienate Black men's lived experiences.

Before coming to CU Boulder, Franklin held various positions in higher education, including residence life, affinity-based mentoring, student conduct, and first-year experience. He enjoys music, karaoke, cooking, and spending time with friends and family in his free time.
