Did You Know?
Academic Advising
Selecting a major and choosing courses might sound simple enough, but academic advising helps to ensure you get the most out of every semester. From orientation through graduation, your academic advisor is an essential part of your college education. Your advisor is a primary resource regarding academic issues, opportunities, and programs in your field of study. If you make the effort to seek his or her advice, your advisor can help you fully understand your options, maximize your academic experience, and make sure you are fulfilling the degree requirements for graduation.
Undergraduate Advising by College and School
Each college and school has its own advising program described below. In addition, faculty members are uniquely knowledgeable about academic programs and career options in their field of study. If you have a question they can’t address, they will refer you to someone who can. You can meet with faculty members by setting up an appointment or visiting during posted office hours.

The School of Education offers course work leading to initial Colorado licensure in elementary (K–6) education, K–12 music education, and secondary (7–12) education. Students interested in education licensure programs are not required to change their major. Education is not a major, but rather an additional certificate program into which undergraduate students apply, typically during their sophomore year. When accepted into a teacher licensure program, undergraduate students must satisfy the College of Arts ands Sciences Core Curriculum, education requirements for licensure, and their major degree requirements. Advising staff in the School of Education meet with students to assess progress toward licensure program requirements, and meet with prospective students as needed to discuss program requirements and preparedness. In addition to meeting with advising staff in the School of Education, undergraduate students also need to contact the primary advisor in their major department to ensure successful completion of their undergraduate major requirements.
