School of Journalism & Mass Communication
Learn the skills necessary to excel in local and national media markets, and take advantage of the school's extensive internship listings to gain valuable media experiences.
Program: Initially, you will complete your freshman year in another college or school, typically in the College of Arts & Sciences as a prejournalism major. After which, you can apply to your chosen sequence: Advertising, Broadcast News, Broadcast Production, Media Studies, or News-Editorial, and earn a B.S. in Journalism.
Hands-on Learning: Students complete internships at magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies, public relations firms, and government and social service agencies. Students have served as interns at The New York Times; National Geographic, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Fox Sports, NBC, ABC, CNN, National Public Radio, Direct TV, U S West, and Sun Microsystems.
Faculty: Faculty members have major-market experience in TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, and advertising. Among the faculty are leading researchers in today's media.

Applying: Transfer students who have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours as well as the journalism prerequisite courses may apply directly to the School of Journalism & Mass Communication. Students who do not have the required hours or prerequisites should apply to the Prejournalism major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
