Transfer Admission Criteria

Transfer student applications are evaluated based on types of courses you have taken, your grade point average (GPA), and the extent to which you have completed our minimum academic preparation standards (MAPS). If you have completed fewer than 4 semester hours of transferable college-level work at the time you apply, you will also be evaluated on work completed in high school and your SAT or ACT scores.

In admission decisions, the types of courses you have taken are as important as your GPA. Only courses completed at the time your application is reviewed are considered in computing your cumulative, or overall, GPA. Your GPA will be calculated by the admissions office using transcripts from all institutions you have attended.

If you would have qualified for admission based on freshman criteria, there is no recommendation for minimum transfer hours. Your cumulative GPA should be competitive and you must have completed all transfer prerequisites for your intended college or school (see Competitive Transfer Guidelines below).

If you did not qualify for admission to the University of Colorado at Boulder based on your high school academic record, you are encouraged to apply for transfer admission after you have completed or have in progress at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) of college-level course work, including any courses outlined in the minimum academic preparation standards (MAPS) chart that you did not meet in high school. All students who graduated from high school in 1988 or later are expected to meet the MAPS requirements.
