Kirk Ambrose is the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, where he leads a group of 12 professionals who support educators in developing innovative, evidence-based, and inclusive practices on our student-centered campus.

Ambrose is also a professor in the classics department. In addition to dozens of scholarly articles, book chapters, and reviews, he has published four books on the medieval art of Europe. He has curated museum exhibitions on the art of the American west, including Pioneers: Women Artists in Boulder, 1898-1950, which was the basis of a feature-length documentary film. His service includes seven years as chair of the Department of Art and Art History and editor-in-chief of The Art Bulletin. For over 20 years, his teaching has spanned the gamut from introductory undergraduate courses of 425 students to graduate seminars.

Ambrose earned a PhD and an MA from the University of Michigan and a BA from Oberlin College.
