Tory Bruno is one of the world’s foremost experts in rocket technology and the launch industry. As the president and chief executive officer for United Launch Alliance (ULA), Bruno serves as principal strategic leader of the organization and oversees all business management and operations.

Join Smead Aerospace's Mark Sirangelo as he welcomes Bruno for a discussion of his career, the future of ULA, the place U.S. launch has in today’s space industry as well as career opportunities in this vital space sector.

Prior to joining ULA, Bruno served as the vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Strategic and Missile Defense Systems. The business is a leading provider of ballistic missile and ballistic missile defense systems, supporting U.S. Department of Defense customers, as well as the U.K. Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence.

He also managed the corporation’s responsibilities in Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Management Limited, a joint venture that produces and safely maintains the U.K.’s nuclear weapons. He is a former member of the board of directors of Lockheed Martin U.K. Ltd.

Bruno joined Lockheed Martin in 1984. He previously served as vice president and general manager of FBM and ICBM, as vice president of the THAAD Missile, as vice president of Engineering, as chief engineer for Strategic Missile Programs, as program manager for FBM Rocket Propulsion.

He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, California, and has completed graduate courses and management programs at Harvard University, Santa Clara University, the Wye River Institute, San Jose State University and the Defense Acquisition University. He also holds several patents.

Mark SirangeloMark N. Sirangelo created and hosts the CU Future Insight Seminar Series as CU’s Entrepreneur-Scholar in Residence. He is the recent Chairman of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Board and the DoD’s Space Advisory Committee. 

Previously he was Special Assistant to the NASA Administrator helping to develop NASA’s return to the Moon.  Mark was the founding executive and head of Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Space Systems which has participated in over 300 space & aerospace missions to date.  He has served as the Chief Innovation Officer of Colorado and is the State’s appointee to the Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory.
