Abstract: The presentation will provide an overview of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.  For this portion of the brief, I will provide a summary of the mission of the Program, as well as its history, enterprise structure, and current major on-going projects. 

The second portion of the brief will cover high level design phases as well as testing principles.  Specifically, I will cover component design milestones, the approach for testing a component or system, testing principles, and traps that you can fall into when are performing complex testing.

Bio: Clare Atzert holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has a Masters of Science in Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering, from the Naval Postgraduate School.  In 2017, she became a licensed professional engineer (Virginia).  In 2023, she obtained her Masters of Business Administration from University of Virginia Darden School of Business.   

Ms. Atzert has worked in several sections within Naval Reactors, including Surface Ship Systems, New Ship Design, and Nuclear Components divisions.  In 2023, Ms. Atzert was promoted to Director, Surface Ship Systems Division.
