Taylor Howard
- GRADUATE STUDENT

Taylor Howard is currently a first year PhD student in Ethnomusicology at the University of Colorado Boulder. Formerly a classical clarinetist, the exclusionary practices of art she has witnessed have always puzzled her. Her focus is on the “progressiveness” of rock music, analyzing the musical and sociological correlations of Blackness tied to rock as a part of the Black canon and why rock is typically rejected. She is focused on the mid to late 1900s, mapping major historical and social movements in the Black community that have influenced the development of rock music, and, more holistically, Black popular music.
