Celeste Elizalde Flores
I am a first-generation Mexican-American APS grad student at the University of Colorado Boulder.
I recently graduated from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S in Physics with Astrophysics option. While at NMT, I had the opportunity to work on robotics for lunar exploration inspired by biology and nature.
I also had the opportunity to work at the Solar REU at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, which helped me discover a new path for working on astronomical instrumentation. I worked with data from the Airborne Infrared Spectrometer (AIR-Spec) that studied the magnetic fields present in the solar corona and studies solutions for the effects of the lenses in cryogenic settings for the Coronal Spectropolarimeter for Airborne Infrared Research (CORSAIR).
Now at CU, I am looking to learn new realms of astrophysics. My interests revolve around galaxy evolution, ISM and stellar nurseries. I am researching with Dr. Brian Flemming and Alex Haughton to launch the next INFUSE sounding rocket.
