Overview

The Business of Sports Certificate is a two-month, intensive certificate program offered by the Leeds School of Business. The program is a 6-credit "boot camp" for students and recent graduates who are seriously interested in pursuing careers in the sports and recreation industry.

During half of the day, students will learn what it is like to work in various divisions of the sports business world. Industry practitioners teach students day-to-day operations of different departments and explain what it takes to get hired into these positions. The following divisions will be examined and integrated with industry-specific topics and industry guest speakers:

  • Economics of Sports
  • Leadership and Ethics
  • Sports Law
  • Sports Facility and Event Management
  • Sports Marketing and Sales

The other half of the day is spent conducting research and completing a project developed by one of our contributing partners. Previous partners include:

  • CU Athletics
  • Denver Broncos
  • Kroenke Sports & Entertainment
  • Pac-12 Networks
  • USA Rugby
  • Vail Resorts Management
  • Verizon Wireless

What You Can Do With This

The Business of Sports certificate program is a gateway for students who are serious about working within the sports world. This program is hands-on, applied business sports curriculum. Students will have the chance to meet and network with a number of industry professionals with experience in many different facets of the sports community. There are designated days for sport complex site visits, which give students a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of these major sports venues. During these site visits there will be additional chances to network with the industry professionals who work there. By being a part of BOS, students will also have exclusive access to job and internship opportunities.

Research & Opportunities

Students will participate in a research project put together by one of BOS's partners. Previous partners include the Denver Broncos, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, USA Rugby, and many other sports businesses. Students will receive guidance from industry professionals and program managers throughout their project. At the end of the program students will have completed a full-length research portfolio and given a final presentation to their assigned company.
