Adriana Espinoza
- Student as Pedagogical Consultant
Adriana Espinoza is an undergraduate in the department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is also pursuing minors in Spanish and Women and Gender Studies. Adriana aspires to go to medical school, and contribute to a space in medicine that is both inclusive, diverse, and equitable. Adriana also works as a student pedagogical partner with ASSETT. Currently, Adriana is working to develop a class in the Miramontes Arts and Sciences Program called “Genes to Gender”, which aims to educate students on the intersection of biology, sex, and gender. In addition, they hope to give students a space to see and appreciate natural variation, in regards to what the variation is along biological systems, and how to use this knowledge to inform how they understand biological diversity. Additionally, Adriana hopes to provide insight on the student perspective, and utilize pedagogical practices to ensure that information is being taught in an inclusive manner that recognizes and integrates all modes of learning. The class discusses topics such as sex determination, chromosomal and hormonal variations, world cultures of gender and sex identity, and current issues that are impacting people’s lived experiences. With a love of both science and social justice, Adriana is excited to contribute to this educational experience.
