General Notes

Preparatory Courses for Ancillary Courses.

  • *CHEM 1021: Introduction to Chemistry (4) – Prep course for General Chemistry (If this course is needed, we recommend taking it in spring of your 1st year and starting general chem 1 in fall of your sophomore year

Other Notes:

  • ° Students may choose to take the MCDB sequence (Fall: MCDB 1150, Spring:  MCDB 2150, and one 2 credit hour lab MCDB 1161, 1171, 1181, 2171) in place of general biology 1 and 2.  An academic advisor can help guide that decision.
  • ** Anatomy lab is NOT required for this major, but may be needed depending on your post-graduation plans.
  • ***Students may need another IPHY elective to reach 30 credits of IPHY major hours if they don't take the Anatomy lab.
  • **** IPHY 1020 is NOT required, but recommended.
  • Health Professions Advisors:  Students who plan to pursue a health career or graduate school may need additional courses.  We recommend students work with Health Professions advisors and check the prerequisites of programs they plan to attend to ensure they are adequately prepared.
  • Additional IPHY Courses may be needed to reach 15 credits of IPHY Core classes and a total of 30 hours of IPHY.

General Education (GE) and MAPS Considerations

  • This plan assumes you do not have any foreign language or MAPS deficiencies.  If those requirements have not yet been met, coursework needed to meet those requirements can count toward the elective hours needed to graduate.
  • The Natural Science Gen Ed requirement is covered by the IPHY major.
  • The QRMS (Math) Gen Ed requirement is covered by the IPHY major
  • This plan assumes you will meet the GE global and US diversity requirements with your Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences GE coursework.
  • There are IPHY writing classes that can count towards the A&S GE writing requirements if you chose to take them (IPHY 1950 and IPHY 3700)
