Meet Marco Vienna: Co-Founder of SmartCapital

Marco Vienna believes entrepreneurship is the driving force behind "solving the world's largest problems." As a co-founder of SmartCapital, Marco and his team solved an important one: allowing anyone to invest in venture capital funds.

In the past, venture capital investing was reserved for the 0.1%, the ultra-rich. SmartCapital democratizes venture capital investing, representing 99.9% of investors. On the SmartCapital marketplace, people have the opportunity to invest in an array of venture funds, which diversifies investing from one venture backed company to many. Customers can also sell their shares through a secondary market, creating more liquid assets. 

Marco saw this opportunity while working in the financial technology industry, and made the difficult decision of dropping out of college to pursue it. SmartCapital is his third FinTech company. He previously started Lucid Investments, a crowdfunding brokerage that let people set up investment funds with their friends, and Kickfurther, a platform that enables people to fund inventory for scaling product businesses.

Marco considers the micro-decisions that he makes each day and the macro-decisions that he makes each quarter as the predictors of his fate. One macro-decision included raising funds from Tim Draper, a well-known venture capitalist, while at Kickfurther. He relies on his confidence, humility and perseverance as an entrepreneur, and believes that the millennial generation will benefit greatly from SmartCapital investing.
