Top career workshops every student should attend

Career Services offers robust programming to support students throughout their academic journey and prepare for life after CU. One way students can access career support is through workshops and training events.
They offer weekly and monthly workshops to help students prepare for the job and internship search. Workshops are an excellent opportunity to ask questions, hear other students' questions and learn valuable information. Here are three top areas Career Services focuses on in workshops.
Technology support
Career Services offers free online tools for students. Handshake is CU’s job and internship board with 25,000+ active postings. It’s also the place for students to sign up for workshops and events on campus. Quinncia is another free online resource. It is an AI tool that can provide instant feedback on your resume and interview skills to help you stand out in the job search.
Attend the Career Technology to Help Land Your Next Job or Internship workshop on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. to learn best practices and ask questions about these and other digital tools. The participation level for this workshop is minimal; you can keep your camera off and ask questions if you have them.
Skill development
Students who intentionally build skills during college typically accept a job within their field six to nine months faster than their peers. Career Services offers students several resources to help explore and build skills, including workshops.
Attend In My Skill-building Era: Strategies to get hired, held in person every other Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. In this workshop, you’ll learn the foundational skills employers look for and clarify the skills you’ve already developed. As a bonus, you’ll learn the best practices to highlight your skills in your application materials.
Resume writing
If you need support with your resume, you can choose from several different workshop opportunities.
If you are just getting started on your resume or need to revamp your existing resume, you can begin with How to Get Noticed: Resumes and Cover Letters. This virtual workshop happens every other Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Participation in this workshop is medium, and you can keep your camera off.
If you want tips to enhance your resume and help it stand out, join us for the Perfect Your Resume: Document Workshop. This virtual workshop happens every other Thursday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Participation is high, and you will receive direct feedback.
Are you ready for a final check of your resume? Attend the in-person Roaming Resumes on Monday, Oct. 30 or Monday, Nov. 27, from 12-1:30 p.m., and the location changes each month.
Networking
Building a robust network can help you throughout your career. Whether you are looking for an internship or a job, having connections can help put you in a position to succeed. The Forever Buffs Network is an excellent resource to build relationships with other Buffs, including alumni.
You can also check out the workshop, Networking: The Basics and Beyond, to learn networking basics, how to network in a genuine way and how to take networking to the next level. Attend this virtual event on Wednesday, Nov. 8 or Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Participation is medium, where you will have opportunities to participate non-verbally and verbally.
