The SUSTech Fellowship Program

The SUSTech Fellowship Program sponsors PhD students from universities outside mainland China to visit SUSTech and conduct cutting edge research for a year (12 months) . Each fellow could receive the stipend of RMB 200,000 yuan (pre-tax) per year.

How to Apply

Applications for this Program are accepted in research areas related to Humanities and Social Sciences. The candidate shall have the support and approval of his/her PhD supervisor who has a strong willingness to collaborate with a tenure-track faculty member of SUSTech who agrees to work as the co-supervisor for the candidate’s research activities during the visit. A research plan needs to be developed by the candidate and approved by both supervisors. The candidate should obtain a support letter from the co-supervisor of SUSTech stating the willingness to host the candidate and research resources available for the candidate.

Deadlines

The application is open twice a year. Application deadlines:
April 30 for visits in the autumn semester.
October 31 for visits in the spring semester.

Eligibility

- Full-time PhD students from the top 150 universities (according to the THE, QS, US News, or ARWU ranking) or universities from Hong Kong and Macau. All nationalities are welcome.
- Have completed all the required coursework. Students having advanced to candidacy are preferred.
- Observe the laws and regulations of the nation and the university.

Required Documents

1. Supporting Letter signed on by the supervisor of SUSTech

2. Research Proposal signed by the applicant and both supervisors

3. CV/Resume and Personal Statement

4. Supporting Documents (scanned copies)

  • The candidate’s certificates of diploma/degree (starting from the bachelor’s degree)
  • The candidate’s transcripts (starting from the bachelor’s degree)
  • The proof of the candidate’s PhD student status
  • The candidate’s valid ID
  • Awards and honors (no more than 3)

Other Information

- Accepted SUSTech Fellows will be registered as non-degree seeking visiting students to SUSTech with no coursework requirements.
- No fees required.
- SUSTech Fellows shall register in the beginning of each semester. The stipend payment starts from the month of arrival when visiting students are expected to launch their research undertakings.
- SUSTech Fellows are expected to follow the Research Proposal and guidance from both supervisors. The co-supervisor of SUSTech will conduct annual evaluation on the Fellow’s performance.
- SUSTech Fellows are responsible for their accommodations, insurance, and other expenses such as visa or travel expenses.
