Wham presented at the 12th annual Water System Seismic Conference, hosted by Japan Water Works Association and co-sponsored by the Water Research Foundation (US) & Chinese Taiwan Water Works Association, Jan. 30 - Feb. 1, 2023 in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu, Japan. His talk, titled “Evaluation of Assessment Procedures for Hazard-Resilient Expansion Joints “ highlighted unique experimental testing performed at CIEST and included lessons learned from reconnaissance missions conducted following the 2016 Kumamoto and 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquakes. Wham also joined water utilities from around the Pacific to witness testing of a 54-inch diameter earthquake-resilient ductile iron expansion joint, conducted by Kubota Corp.
