Nicholas (Nick) received his BS, MS, and PhD from CU Boulder in mechanical engineering. His research experiences and interests include urban ambient air quality monitoring, compositional analysis, and source apportionment, indoor air quality monitoring and analysis, impacts of buildings on human health and wellness, filtration effectiveness, airborne infection control and risk modeling, and reducing air pollution exposure and improving energy efficiency in communities experiencing environmental injustices. Prior to his current role, he worked for Delos for five years as the director of building science at the Well Living Lab, a collaborative research facility with the Mayo Clinic, and as a post-doc at CU Boulder for four years. Nick is an active ASHRAE member and served as chair of the Environmental Health Committee (EHC) and a committee member of SGPC10, the Position Document for Health and Wellness in the Built Environment Committee, and other technical committees (e.g., TC2.4, TC2.3, TC2.1). Nick is currently the manager of the Larson Laboratory, a research facility dedicated to HVAC and building system design and testing, as well as the manager of the Building Energy Smart Technologies (BEST) Center, an NSF industry-university cooperative research center (IUCRC) seeking to advance energy systems for buildings, cities and grids to be intelligent, resilient and efficient. In his free time, Nick enjoys skiing, disc golfing, playing guitar, listening to music and traveling.
