Indigenous History Summer Workshop Intensive in Applied History with Patty Limerick

This opportunity takes up a range of activities: brainstorming sessions, opportunities for networking, confidence-building exercises, the cultivation of healthy writing habits, and coaching sessions (on Zoom and in-person) with experienced practitioners of Applied History. Working in a range of fields including academia, film, and journalism, guest speakers joining us include (but are not limited to!):

  • Victor Masayesva, director of Imagining Indians (1993).
  • Liza Black, author of Picturing Indians: Native Americans in Film, 1941–1960.
  • Farina King, author of Diné dóó Gáamalii: Navajo Latter-day Saint Experiences in the Twentieth Century.
  • Laurie Arnold, author of Bartering with the Bones of Their Dead: The Colville Confederated Tribes and Termination.
  • Roger Fragua, former Deputy Director of the Council of Energy Resource Tribes and current President of Coda Holdings.
  • Maurice Crandall, author of These People Have Always Been A Republic.
  • Josh Reid, author of The Sea Is My Country: The Maritime World of the Makahs.
  • William "Willy" Bauer, author of We Were All Like Migrant Workers Here: Work, Community and Memory on California's Round Valley Reservation, 1850-1941.
  • Rick Williams, CEO of the People of the Sacred Land (PSL), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of Native leaders, elders, and concerned citizens who want to learn the truth about the American Indian people who gave up their land in Colorado.
  • Tony Chavarria, Curator of Ethnology, Museum on Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
  • Mark Trahant, Editor-at-Large for Indian Country Today.

Post-docs, adjuncts, and recent Ph.D. graduates in History are encouraged to apply. We will also accept applications from graduate students who are working on their dissertations.
