JoAnn Silverstein received her Ph.D. in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the University of California, Davis, in 1982. From there she went on to become an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder and holds that position presently. She has been a Registered Professional Engineer (Colorado #26151) since 1989. Current awards include the Distinguished Engineering Educator from the Society of Women Engineers in 2000 and the NSF Faculty Award for Women Scientists and Engineers from 1992 to 1997. She holds national committee memberships with the National Water Research Institute, Women in Academia-Society of Women Engineers, and WEF, Biosolids Committee.
