Dear CU Boulder community:
During my annual State of the Campus address today, I announced I have decided to retire as chancellor and transition to new roles serving the campus.
Starting in fall 2024, my primary duties will include serving as the senior executive director of the Center for Leadership as well as the Quigg and Virginia S. Newton Endowed Chair in Leadership. I also will continue to engage with major donors and engaged alumni across the university landscape and support the transition of our next chancellor. After nearly 15 years as chancellor and 50 years as a faculty member at CU Boulder, I am also eagerly anticipating returning to the faculty.
This decision comes following significant personal reflection and the utmost gratitude I have for the privilege of leading this campus.
I will remain in my current post until the successful conclusion of a national search for a new chancellor, which I expect will begin soon. CU system President Todd Saliman will share more information about the search process in the coming weeks.
Thank you to those who attended the speech in person, and I hope many of you were able to watch the livestream. In this year’s speech, I discussed CU Boulder’s holistic focus on student success and the many ways, large and small, we are working together to accomplish this mission.
It is truly an exciting and rewarding time to be a part of the University of Colorado Boulder, and I have been honored and humbled to lead this campus for these many years.
Thank you all and Go Buffs!
Phil DiStefano
