Michael DetamoreMichael Detamore (ChemEngr ’00) has been named founding director of the new Peggy and Charles Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma.

OU established the school and named its Gallogly College of Engineering in 2015 following a $30 million gift from Peggy and Charles Stephenson of Tulsa, the Stephenson Family Foundation, and Janet and Jim Gallogly of Houston.

The School of Biomedical Engineering will welcome its first class of nearly 30 students this fall and plans to hire several endowed professors, award Stephenson Graduate Fellowships, and open a new academic building.

Detamore previously worked at the University of Kansas as a professor of chemical and petroleum engineering. While a student at CU Boulder, Detamore served as president of the student chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Biomedical Engineering Society. He also earned the Colorado Engineering Council’s Silver Medal Award.
