It's Official! Sundance is Coming to Boulder in 2027
The Sundance Institute announced on March 27th that the festival's new home will be Boulder starting in 2027.
This is very exciting for the Boulder film/arts community as a whole and especially for the Cinema Studies and Moving Image Arts department. Several of our faculty have showcased their work at previously at the festival, including Kelly Sears featuring voice over by Skinner Myers in 2024 and Geoff Marslett in 2019. We look forward to seeing what other opportunities arise for faculty, staff, and students from having this major festival in our city.
Professor Acevedo-Muñoz commented on this move on 9news recently as well Cinema Studies students Amelia Chavez and McKenna Yates.
“It could be a rich opportunity for students to get involved, even if volunteering,” said Yates, a senior in the film program. “That experience, hands on and networking, so important.”
“The University of Colorado Boulder is thrilled to join the cast and crew bringing the legendary Sundance Film Festival to Colorado,” said CU Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz. “We are excited for tens of thousands of festival guests to experience what we already know: Boulder is an incredible place to immerse yourself in the arts, culture, nature and history that make life worth living. I’m delighted by the opportunities the festival will offer to our students, faculty, staff and extended community.”
