Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
Creating a culture of belonging depends on our ability to shift cultural perspectives and appropriately adapt behaviors to cultural differences and commonalities. We use the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) to assess where people are in the development of intercultural competence and to provide a roadmap for increasing those competencies.
The IDI is designed to strengthen one's intercultural awareness and understanding. Through CISC, the IDI is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. The program consists of a group-results presentation, an online assessment and a one-on-one coaching session with an IDI facilitator. The IDI program builds capacity to reflect on one’s cultural experiences and background and to relate across cultural differences. During the presentation and subsequent coaching session, students learn where they fall along the Intercultural Development Continuum™, and discuss strategies and actionable ideas (also known as developmental tasks) that groups and individuals can use to be more effective in people’s inclusion and equity efforts.
The CU community is a diverse one, and it is vital for those in our community to build the awareness, knowledge and skills to build relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
The Center has reached its capacity for the IDI training requests for the spring 2020 semester. There is no availability for individual or group IDI training requests for the remainder of the year.
