Student groups

The Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) at CU envisions a world where all students are accepted and respected regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. No matter how you identify: gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual or allied, the Gender & Sexuality Alliance welcomes you. GSA hosts events throughout the year,  including the annual Drag Show, queer sex education and Queer Formal.

Out in STEM (oSTEM) provides networking opportunities, professional development, social events and a safe space for the LGBTQ+ STEM students at CU Boulder. General meetings occur weekly and consist of a mix of community, social, academic and professional development events. oSTEM meetings are open to all members of the CU Boulder community.

Bring Your Own Gender (BYOG) is a social group for students who identify as trans, nonbinary, gender creative or questioning their gender identity.

Staff and faculty groups

The LGBTQ+ Affinity group meets monthly (virtual or in-person). The group aims to increase our sense of belonging amongst the queer community at CU Boulder. Please request to join the group on their Teams channel.

Local organizations

Working independently and in collaboration, Rocky Mountain Equality Center facilitates connection, advocacy, education, research and programs to ensure LGBTQ+ people and communities thrive in Boulder County and beyond. Their programs and services include social and support groups   , educational programs, scholarships and mental health resources, among many others. 

The Center on Colfax is Denver’s LGBTQ+ community center, giving voice to Colorado’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and playing a pivotal role in statewide initiatives to reduce harassment and discrimination. The Center on Colfax provides a host of free services, targeted programs and cultural events, including social support groups, the Colorado LGBTQ+ History Project, Rainbow Alley youth community and Saga adult program, special events for the trans community, an LGBTQ+ friendly resource directory and many more!

There are a variety of meetups in the Boulder and Denver area that serve different identities and interest groups. Visit the Meetup LGBTQ+ page to see all meetups in your area. A few examples:

  • Denver Black Queer Collective: “Queer affirming space for all Black folks in Denver area. A space to develop meaningful connections through resistance and joy. Events include game nights, queer discussions, nights downtown and other adventures. Safe space for all Black women, girls, femmes and gender non-conforming people.”
  • Queer and Nerdy Game Night: “A fun way for Longmont and BoCo LGBTQQA+ adults to make new friends and nerd out on some games. Whatever we play, the goal is to have fun and make new friends within our community.”
  • CO T-Folk: “We’re a community of transmasculine members throughout Colorado from all walks of life and all stages of transition coming together to educate, mentor and provide a safe and healthy environment. This is a private, judgement free group offering a great opportunity to come together and create much needed support in our community.”
  • Denver Gay Book Club: “We read books and meet to talk about them. All genders and orientations are welcome, so long as you actually read.”
