Critical Media Practices

Tyler J. Grimes' (b. in Wilmington, DE) multimodal works ponder provocative paradoxes in order to provoke novel perceptions of reality and the environment. His work often spans video installation, emergent technologies, photography, sound, and performance. Synthesizing insights from various schools of thought allows his practice-based research to intersect media-ecology, the cognitive sciences, and mindfulness-awareness practices. Through entertaining a post-humanistic lens which explores a progressive consumption of dogma, diet, and media in a more-than-human milieu;  this research carries him - as he sees these motifs and our awareness of such as paramount in today's media-saturated and environmentally fragile world.

Grimes has a background in visual communications, which is supplemented by a Photographic and Electronic Media MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He's also been awarded research grants, admittance into artists' residencies, helped produce award-winning films, published in various sectors, spoken at multimedia conferences, and has exhibited his work internationally.
