Notes from the Class of 1999

After serving as chief operating officer at Sealevel Systems for five years, Ben O’Hanlan (Hist’99) was named president. The company provides software and hardware for computer connectivity and control. Ben lives in Greenville, S.C.

Justin Couvillion (Mktg’99) and his wife welcomed their first child, Ryder Hudson Couvillion, on Oct. 6, 2011. The family lives in Landera Ranch, Calif., and Justin writes, “Ryder should be hitting Boulder in 2029!”

Baby boy Jalen Quinn Maness was born on Oct. 4, 2011, to proud parents Jordan Maness (Jour, Mktg’99) andJennifer Fiscus Maness (IntlAf, Span’00). The family lives in Playa Del Rey, Calif.

Lieutenant commander Lance Tinstman (Mktg’99) and his wife Leah welcomed their first child, Lawrence Whitney Tinstman II, to their family in February. Lance is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and he and his family relocated to Hawai’i from Washington, D.C., in June.

The New York Times featured the love story and July 2011 wedding of Jeffrey Blaugrund (IntlAf’99) and his bride Sarah Silverman. Jeffrey is a Tibco Software executive from Albuquerque who moved to New York City where the couple resides.

Illustrator Peter Breese’s (Kines’99, MPubHealth’04) work has appeared in such publications as The New Devil’s Dictionary, Spectrum 18 and Covet. His illustrations have been exhibited in galleries across the country, and his clients include fashion boutiques and Hollywood celebrities. He lives in Ann Arbor, Mich.

For his work Todd Goodman (Mus’99) received two international composition awards. He is collaborating with librettist Stephen Catanzarite in writing a grand opera based on the classic film Night of the Living Dead to premiere in Pittsburgh in October 2013. Todd is writing various works for musicians around the world, including a percussion concerto, an English horn concerto and another opera. He lives in Midland, Penn.

The matrimonial law firm Siegel, Reilly & Conlon hired Ross Kaufman (Engl’99) who has been practicing family, civil and criminal law since 2003. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a solo practitioner at his own firm. He lives with his wife and daughter in Stamford, Conn.

Crossing the East River, Gaffney Peglar Barnett (Humn’99) and her husband and two boys moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn in May. She stays in touch with a number of Buffs who live in the New York area.

Born & Raised is an independent feature film directed, edited and co-produced by Joshua Dragge (Film’99). The film is about a young man in a small seaside town who learns a thing or two about love, luck and life from his well-traveled outlaw grandfather. Born & Raised was shown  at this year’s Breckenridge Festival of Film on June 9. Joshua lives in Torrance, Calif

Melton Construction announced the addition of Clay Dusel (EnvSt’99) as a project development manager. Clay has more than 10 years of construction experience and owned his own custom home building company. He also has extensive knowledge of the design/build process, green building practices and Boulder County building codes.

After completing the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, Denver resident Jared Anderson (Jour’99) climbed to the Annapurna base camp and took photographs there. His art and photos can be seen at www.jareddavidpaul.com.

On June 3 Jennifer Baker (Comm’99) married Benjamin Gene in Delray Beach, Fla. Jennifer is a Realtor and writes while she and her husband plan to stay in Florida they will always get their “snow fix” in Colorado at a Buff game every year. She served on the CU-Boulder Alumni Association board of directors several years ago and continues to promote Forever Buffs in Florida. Jennifer and her husband live in Boca Raton, Fla.

Director, editor and producer of the film Born & Raised, Joshua Dragge (Film’99) received a certificate of merit at the Williamsburg International Film Festival. The film Born & Raised secured distribution with R Squared Films. It played at Logan Film Festival in Logan, Utah, and Gasparilla Film Festival in Tampa, Fla., in March. Joshua lives in Torrance, Calif.

The five-time award-winning feature film Born & Raised, directed, edited and co-produced by Joshua Dragge (Film’99), played in Los Angeles in April at the United Film Festival. Joshua lives in Torrance, Calif.

Ann Parker (PolSci’99) writes restaurant reviews for the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Her reviews describe the food, ambiance, service and highlights of area restaurants and can be found at santacruzsentinel.com/food. She lives in Woodacre, Calif.

“Go Buffs!” Although Sophia Leigh Gene, born Sept. 28, 2013, might not be chanting these words yet, her mother, Jennifer Baker Gene (Comm’99), is confident Sophia will be a Buffs fan one day. Jennifer and family live in Boca Raton, Fla.

Many restaurants now offer gluten-free items, but in 2006 that wasn’t the case. That’s the year Jessica Hoyt(EthnSt’99) was diagnosed with celiac disease. With her husband, Jessica wrote a short film about the disease, “The Curse of Don Scarducci,” which depicts the effects and quirks of the disease. She lives in Stonington, Conn.

At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Jenny Kehl (MPolSci’99, PhD’03) serves as director of the Water Policy Center. She also is the Lynde B. Uihlein endowed chair in water policy. Before joining UWM, Jenny worked at Rutgers University as an associate professor. She focuses on conflict in trans-boundary river and lake systems globally. She lives in Milwaukee.

In Nevada the Clark County Commission appointed John Entsminger (Law’99) as general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District and the Southern Nevada Water Authority. John has worked for the agencies since 1999.
