Sina Aghli
Post-Baccalaureate Assistant Teaching Professor

Sina received his BSc in computer hardware engineering from Azad University of Iran, MSc in Mechatronics Engineering from Tabriz University of Iran and PhD in Computer Science from University of Colorado Boulder. He has worked as a roboticist on multiple industrial projects and he is a medalist in multiple international robotic competitions.
Sina’s research interests are in robot perception, control and planning algorithms with focus on self-driving cars.

Why do you teach online for the Post-Bacc program?

It is amazing to be alive in a time where one can teach a class, for students from all around the world and there are no limitations on location or time of a class. I know that in the past, if one was late for his class the teacher would have penalized the student but online methods like this removes the stressfulness of catching up with classes by providing pre-recorded videos of the lectures and allowing students to study in their own will.
I have been a student in many engineering fields and eventually decided to get my PhD in computer science since I realized that I can design incredible things if I masters this field. In robotics which is a popular field these days, one needs to know the basics of computer science in order to work on different topics like, machine learning, AI, robot perception and safety and security of systems.

What do you like to do outside of CU?

I would like to know consider myself a roboticist, I have been lucky to be able to work on my hobby and get paid for it. I’m married to the loveliest architect/artist in the world. We enjoy hiking/skiing mountains of Colorado, dancing tango and playing computer games.
