Boulder County Flowers

Early Boulder Flowers

Boulder County is home to a high level of plant diversity with over 1,700 different species of vascular plant documented in the county. This diversity is in part due to the range of habitat from plains and grasslands in the east to high elevation and alpine species in the west. The CU Herbarium houses over 11,000 specimens from Boulder County and over 100,000 specimens from the state of Colorado. Images of these specimens are available in our database here.

The slides above represent species that flower in the area during April and May.

The CU Herbarium is leading an effort funded by NSF and the Advancing the Digitization of Biological Collections (ADBC) program to agregate and digitize over 1.7 million splant specimens from the Southern Rocky Mountains. Information about this project and the records and images from the project can be accessed here.
