He was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (2002) and CIRES Outstanding Performance Award (2003) and member of a scientific team awarded the Colorado Governor's Award for High Impact Research (2014). His research of atmospheric chemistry involves the development of highly sensitive optical instrumentation for laboratory and field studies. When he's not doing science, Professor Brown might be found knitting a creative hat, dancing the zydeco, riding his bike or hiking with his wife, two kids, and two well-behaved Border Collies.
