David W. Brown

David W. Brown is a freelance writer whose work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times and Scientific American. His first book, The Mission (2021), chronicles the efforts of a group of scientists who spent two decades persuading NASA to send a spacecraft to Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. His upcoming memoir, The Outside Cats (Mariner Books), recounts his expeditions to Antarctica and the collaborative international research team studying rapid sea-level rise in the region.

An endurance runner, former U.S. Army paratrooper and Afghanistan veteran, Brown is also a dedicated volunteer with local animal rescue organizations. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and a degree from Louisiana State University.

Brown lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he continues his writing and volunteer work.
