Parking and Transportation Accommodations
Disability Services and Parking & Transportation Services work collaboratively to support students with disabilities or temporary medical conditions who need assistance with parking on or commuting to, from and around campus.
Step One: Register with Disability Services
Students who are not currently registered with Disability Services:
- Register with Disability Services by submitting an Application for Accommodations.
- Please note that if you need to request academic accommodations, you must schedule a separate academic Access Meeting.
Students who are currently registered with Disability Services:
- Submit a Supplemental Request in Accommodate.
Step Two: Submit documentation
Students requesting reasonable accommodations and/or services must submit documentation of a disabling condition to verify eligibility. Students are required to submit documentation regarding the diagnosis(es) that demonstrates a disability covered under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended (2008) and Fair Housing Act.
Please review our Documentation Guidelines for Housing & Dining Accommodations for additional information. All documentation is kept confidential. Additional forms of documentation may include:
- Medical providers may fill out our Disability Verification Form.
- A letter from a qualified medical professional.
- Psychological evaluation(s).
- Psychoeducational evaluation(s) with standardized test scores.
- A physician’s medical records.
How to submit documentation:
- Submit as part of your Application for Accommodations.
- Upload to Accommodate.
- Email to your Housing Access Coordinator or dsinfo@colorado.edu.
- Fax to 303-5601.
- Drop-off in-person at Center for Community, N200.
Step Three: Disability Services reviews submitted documentation
The Housing Access Coordinator will provide a Notice of Determination to the student within ten (10) business days following the start of the review process. This 10-day time limit may be extended at the discretion of the Housing Access Coordinator, upon written notice to the student. In order to initiate the review process, the student must submit an Application for Accommodations and provide supporting documentation.
Monitor your CU Boulder email address for information about your parking and transportation accommodation.
Additional information
- There is no building-to-building shuttle service on campus. However, both on- and off-campus transportation resources are available.
- Students may purchase a two-week permit with Parking Services while they are applying for a state-issued ADA license plate, decal or placard, or if they are recovering from a temporary medical condition and/or working with Disability Services for formal parking accommodations.
- These permits are issued near your residence hall and/or classrooms. Please note that temporary injuries usually do not qualify for ADA parking.
Frequently asked questions
If you are not yet registered with our office, you will need to register. If you are already registered with our office, you can submit a supplemental request.
While each accommodation request is assessed on a case-by-case basis, Disability Services, in collaboration with Parking Services, typically provides parking permit accommodations that may allow an individual to park close to their academic building(s), residence hall (if living on campus) or certain areas of campus (e.g., east campus, Williams Village, etc.).
The review process for housing, parking and dining accommodations may take up to 10 business days. If Disability Services is unable to issue a decision within the 10-business day timeline, an access coordinator will communicate with you.
Depending on how long the temporary parking pass is needed, Parking Services can provide temporary permits to students. If the parking permit is needed for longer than what Parking Services can provide directly, Disability Services can assist with this accommodation request.
Yes. You can either apply for a temporary parking permit through Parking Services, or you can apply for a long-term parking accommodation through Disability Services.
No. Learn more about Colorado-issued ADA parking placards.
There is no building-to-building shuttle service on campus, but all Buff Buses are ADA-accessible. Please see on- and off-campus transportation resources to learn more about transportation options.
While accommodations are intended to ensure equal access, they do not exempt students from the standard requirement of purchasing a parking permit.
