A circuit board that will be used in Team Kahraba's smart home system

Nowadays, the automation of everyday life tasks has been made easier given the new technologies available. Homeowners would like to arrive to their homes finding the house environment set to their desire. There are various current smart systems that homeowners can install in their homes, which make their homes smarter. However, most modern smart systems require a considerable amount of money to install on preexisting infrastructure. In addition, most of these systems are visibly unattractive since they are plugged into the electric outlet.

Product Concept

The objective of this project is to develop smart homes, where it would be great if homeowners can control their house remotely. The goal of our project is to design a gang box with multiple modular sensors, where the modularity of the sensors will give homeowners the freedom as well as the flexibility to interchangeably switch between the desired sensors in each electric outlet. The sensor choices given to the homeowner are temperature, humidity, light and motion. These sensors will communicate with a stationary central computer through Power Lines, where the use of PLC will eliminate the need of installing other means of communication between the electric outlets and central computer. Other means of communications would be wireless communication, since the available wireless technologies have limited power to reach all parts of the house.
