ITS does research in the development of modern spectrum sensing systems based on networks of sensors. Their current solution would benefit from a front end preselector to lower the costs of the device and make it more reliable and accurate. This front end preselector addition to their network of spectrum sensors is the focus of our project.

The product is an integrated preselector that has easily interchangeable off-board filtering and Low Noise Amplifiers to increase the functionality of the client’s current SDR-based spectrum sensor. The product has new housing that increases heat dissipation.

Air traffic controllers and other vital roles that require RF communication will benefit because it will be easier to detect unauthorized use of their RF bands. Also, engineers may be able to use this as a cheaper alternative to traditional lab bench spectrum analyzers.

What capabilities does this product/device provide that are not commonly available?

  • Easily interchangeable filtering components for different applications
  • Cheaper and more lightweight.
  • More versatile.
  • Energy efficient.
  • Modern Spectrum Sensing based on networks of multiple sensors (rather than a single measurement at a single location).
