The Colorado Space Grant Consortium, in conjunction with the Center for Environmental Technology (CET) and the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), has acquired a C-band radio dish which needs to be altered in order to receive S-band transmissions from and send UHF signals to the Polarcube cubesat mission. When the dish was decommissioned prior to its sale, the previous owners, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), removed the majority of the manual control system and radar systems, necessitating the development of a new control system, user interface, and S-band and UHF communication components including antennas, waveguides, and RF feeds. We are designing and fabricating the new on-campus ground station for Space Grant S-band satellites using the newly acquired C-band dish and trailer as a framework, enabling them to communicate with current and future projects better than their current infrastructure allows. In addition, we are enabling system interface with off-site computers, allowing the system to be monitored and operated remotely.
