Our capstone project is a Power over Ethernet (PoE) to usb-c smart power delivery system, sponsored by LUUM.io. In our sponsor's original design for their PoE system, each outlet required its own direct ethernet cable connection running from a PoE network switch to each individual outlet, reducing the number of outlets that could be connected to the switch. Our sponsor tasked us with developing a new version of their outlet that would have both an input and output ethernet port on each outlet to allow for a system of outlets in an ethernet cable chain to be powered by using only one direct connection to the PoE switch. Each outlet split power and data using a transformer at the ethernet input. Our final system was three single-port outlets capable of serving a maximum total of 100W to connected usb-c load devices with smart protection that prevented loads from drawing more than the given 100W power limit as loads were connected to the system.
