For our final product, we created a TMR sensor test system with a 3D printer gantry that allows controllable movement for testing. The product has x, y and z oriented TMR sensors and generates a 2D heatmap of the magnetic field magnitude over the region scanned by the sensors. This heatmap can be used to identify the location of magnetized objects. With further optimization of the hardware and software, we believe these sensors could be used to create a retained item detection wand that would significantly reduce post-op complications and save time and money.
