Dr. Vanessa Santiago Schwarz is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the department of Equity, Bilingualism and Biliteracy (EBB). She teaches several courses to teacher candidates in the Elementary Teacher Education program, including Dis/ability in Classrooms and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies. She received her Ph.D. in 2018 from the School of Education at CU Boulder in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity. Her dissertation explored the special education process at a Dual Language elementary school. She has a Masters of Science in Bilingual and Special Childhood Education and spent 8 years working as an elementary school teacher. In her current role at CU-Boulder, she also collaborates with Professor Millie Gort and Dr. Laura Hamman on research exploring the impact of a systemic functional linguistics approach to teaching writing in bilingual classrooms.
