The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder is one of the top-ranked engineering schools in the nation and a dynamic community committed to improving the student experience. The Graduate Interns will assist in implementing student success initiatives in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Graduate interns do not need to have a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) background in order to be successful in the role.

CEAS is hiring two graduate interns. One intern will primarily work with our Academic Coaching Program, and one intern will collaborate with professional staff on academic success initiatives and programming

Academic Coaching Intern

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Academic Coaching and Senior Academic Coach, the graduate intern will serve as an academic coach and meet with undergraduate students one-on-one for academic coaching over the course of the academic year. The intern may also lead other academic success efforts such as workshops, outreach, assessment, and more. The primary focus of the intern will be delivering academic coaching to undergraduate students. This intern will receive intensive training in coaching strategies and techniques and what it means to be an academic coach before receiving a caseload of students.

The employment period for this role will be summer/fall 2023-spring 2024 (July-May) with a potential opportunity to continue based on funding.

Specifically, the Academic Coaching Graduate Intern will assist within these areas of responsibility:

  • Manage a caseload of undergraduate engineering students and meet one-on-one with students on a biweekly basis to develop good rapport, discuss challenges, track their progress throughout the semester, and work with students on academic skill building. These students can be from any CEAS major and year within the college.
  • Participate in student success initiatives such as academic early alert, academic success workshops, and other academic interventions and programming.
  • Participate in weekly academic coaching training with CEAS interns, monthly training with other university collaborators throughout the semester, and optional campus-wide training and professional development opportunities.

Academic Success Intern

Working under the supervision of the Academic Success Programs Manager, the graduate intern will focus on coordinating and facilitating academic success programming for the college. This will include events such as workshops, tabling, study halls, exam preparation sessions and more. Additionally, the intern will work with the Programs Manager to research and develop new academic success initiatives. A decent amount of this position will be focused specifically on first-year academic success programming for the new Engineering Residential Community (Engineering Connections), that will launch in fall 2023.

Specifically, the Academic Success Graduate Intern will assist within these areas of responsibility:

  • Oversee and coordinate academic success events, including scheduling, training (if needed for other staff/student workers), and managing events.
  • Collaborate with offices and departments across campus to enhance student success initiatives (examples include working with the BOLD Center, and Health Promotions).
  • Assist in facilitating scheduling and training for engineering peer coaches (undergraduate student workers) who will work with first-year students in Engineering Connections.
  • Assist in designing and executing academic success first-year programming for new students within the Engineering Residential Community such as:
    • Workshops
    • Tabling events
    • Study halls
    • Exam preparation sessions
  • Research, develop, and implement strategic initiatives and high-impact practices to enhance academic support and experience for engineering students and create a positive transition into CEAS for new students.
  • Execute marketing for academic success events.
  • Help maintain academic success website content.

The duties of this position may change from time to time based on the needs of the college. Duties and responsibilities may be added or deleted at the discretion of the supervisor and/or the flow of the academic year.
