About the Lattice Program

The Lattice Scholarship Program is a new initiative that provides participating students, known as Lattice Scholars, with support in the areas of financial wellness, academic success, and building relationships and connections in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS). The goal of the Lattice Program is that scholars from first-generation, low-income backgrounds are engaged with resources and support through the Lattice Program that help students succeed in their studies and graduate from CEAS with skills to practice responsible stewardship of personal and financial resources.

About the Lattice Program Assistant

The Lattice Program is hiring Lattice Program Assistants – current students in the College of Engineering & Applied Science – to join the Lattice Team. Lattice Program Assistants will work closely with Lattice Program professional staff and play an essential role in the program by helping to plan and implement programmatic responsibilities including program communications with students, handling and tracking participant information, Lattice Community events for scholars and mentors, and general administrative duties. To implement Lattice Community Events, Program Assistants will work as a team to plan and facilitate events and to create and share resources for scholars. The Lattice Program Assistant position will report to a Lattice staff member in the College of Engineering & Applied Science.

During the 2024-25 academic year, Lattice Program Assistants are responsible for working with Lattice professional staff to assist in completing the following:

  • Tracking and organizing Lattice program and participant information in physical and online storage,
  • Using Microsoft Office suite programs and other online systems to create, edit, update, and otherwise maintain program materials,
  • Implementing communications with Lattice Scholars about various topics via email or other university systems,
  • Planning and implementing Lattice activities such as events, workshops, retreats, etc., for current scholars and mentors.
  • Planning a series of monthly events for Lattice mentors and mentees on topics related to first-generation experience, engineering success, academic success, personal health and well-being, financial wellness, and more, in collaboration with the Lattice Mentor team and Lattice professional staff.
  • Modeling and teaching key behaviors and skills in the following areas (training and preparation will be provided by Lattice Staff):
    • Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the Lattice program.
    • Growth mindset toward academic learning, financial wellness, professional development, interpersonal relationships, and personal growth.
    • Relational and humanizing approach to working with each other, Scholars, Program staff, and faculty.
    • Strong interpersonal communication and relationships with peers, staff, and faculty.
    • Community building within College of Engineering and CU Campus community and resources.

Lattice Program Assistants are required to attend and actively participate in the following:

  • Lattice Program Assistant training, tentatively planned for (Summer 2024, before the start of fall semester).
  • Weekly Staff Meetings (at a time to be determined)
  • Completing 7-10 hours each week of administrative work and special project committee work (with the possibility for additional project work based on program needs).
  • Regular Lattice Events, including but not limited to:
    • Lattice Fall Retreat & Welcome
    • Lattice Workshops and Partner Events (approx 2-3 per semester)
    • Monthly Lattice Community Events
    • Lattice Spring Retreat
    • Lattice Year-End Celebration
  • Attending Lattice workshops with Lattice Faculty Director, Lattice Staff, etc.

Expectations for Responsible and Professional Conduct include:

  • Program Assistants will conduct themselves respectfully and in accordance with expectations of the position and university policies (FERPA, Harassment & Discrimination, Responsible Employee/Mandatory Reporter, etc.).
  • Communicate consistently, thoroughly, and effectively with the rest of the Program Assistants, with Lattice Scholars, with Lattice Program Staff, Faculty Director, etc.
  • Complete weekly and semester responsibilities in a timely manner, such as submitting weekly timesheets, planning and preparing for program activities, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are current undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
  • Previous experience or participation in the Lattice Scholarship Program is encouraged but not required.
  • Previous experience in a mentoring, leadership, or similar role (orientation leader, etc.) is encouraged but not required.

Required Qualifications

  • Program Assistants must demonstrate a positive and supportive approach to working with others and the willingness to try and learn new things.
  • Program Assistants are expected to maintain strong academic performance.
  • Program Assistants must be available to work during the meetings, activities, and events outlined above.

Compensation & Work: Lattice Program Assistants will earn $18 per hour. Lattice Program Assistants will work between 8-10 hours each week, with the possibility for additional work based on a case-by-case basis.
