A Message from the Director: Student Leadership in ENVD

It is the time of year when student organizations and student government elect new officers. These organizations are a critical part of Environmental Design. They represent the student voice to the faculty and administration. They provide input on curriculum, space needs, faculty promotions and issues that the student body identifies as critical to the running of a department. The faculty and staff look to these groups for essential input as we continuously work to improve Environmental Design. Additionally, these groups are intended to build community among Environmental Design students. With almost 700 students, the need for community is significant and we need to make sure that every member of the Environmental Design community feels like they are a part of this program. The student organizations are a key element of this community building.

As we enter this election period, the administration encourages all students who would like to have a voice in the department to get involved with a club or organization. Over the next year, the department will be looking to these organizations to provide input on a regular basis, to assist in building community and to serve as a direct voice to the department leadership team. I hope many of you will consider getting involved. Your voice is critical, make it heard.
