The University of Colorado Boulder will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Coors Events Center.

Due to possible traffic delays, and ongoing construction on U.S. 36 leading into Boulder, early arrival is strongly advised. Guests should plan on arriving well before 9 a.m. in order to be in their seats for the student processional. No tickets are required for the ceremony. The doors to the Coors Events Center will open at 7:30 a.m.

For the safety of all guests, only soft-sided bags or containers no larger than 12x12x12 (the size of a purse or small backpack) are welcome at the Coors Events Center. Clear, plastic grocery-type bags are strongly recommended to facilitate security screening at the doors. All persons and packages are subject to screening prior to entry into the events center. Please report unattended or suspicious bags to police immediately.

The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will honor candidates for 1,707 degrees, including 1,194 bachelor’s degrees, 340 master’s degrees, 10 law degrees and 163 doctoral degrees.

CU-Boulder Professor Robert S. Anderson will give the commencement address. Anderson is the recipient of the 2014 Hazel Barnes Award, which is the university’s most distinguished faculty award. Anderson is a geomorphologist and studies many features of landscapes that evolved in the Quaternary geologic period, from about 2.5 million years ago to the present.

City and campus roads may be congested for approximately one and a half hours before the ceremony and about an hour afterward. Parking lots and gray meters near the Coors Events Center are free for commencement parking. Traffic officers and parking supervisors and attendants will be available to assist campus visitors.

Many departments within CU-Boulder’s schools and colleges will hold events to personally recognize their graduates. Students should check with their individual departments for more information.
