What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxCU, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxCU event, live speakers will spark deep discussion and connection with the audience. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are independently organized.

What is TEDxCU?

TEDxCU is a premier program of the College of Media, Communication and Information and the Department of Communication. This is a student-driven project with undergraduates from across campus who are responsible for planning every aspect of our event from beginning to end. We start planning our annual mainstage spring TEDxCU event in August. Our team of students get hands-on experience in choosing and coaching speakers, operations, sponsorship, finance and budgeting, marketing and social media, and community engagement. We are committed to helping spread ideas that can transform our communities while also giving CU students an amazing learning experience. TEDxCU is open to all majors.

TEDxCU is student run and requires a lot of resources to host our event. Donating to TEDxCU helps our students gain valuable experience outside the classroom and your support will have a direct impact on the greater community.

Be Involved

The character traits that unite all TEDxCU organizers is curiosity and commitment. If you are curious about the world and want to find ways to make the world a better place for everyone, join us! If you join us, we expect commitment. This is not an organization that you simply show up to once a week. TEDxCU produces one of the largest TEDx events in the country and works to maintain excellence as outlined by TED Headquarters. We are a group of creative people who work hard and have fun.

About 30 students participate in TEDxCU throughout the year, with Leadership Committee applications accepted late spring semester and general committee applications accepted during fall semester. Any CU student in any major can be involved! If you’re interested, email the faculty advisor, Dr. Michael Burns.

If you want to be involved, follow us on social media and come to our events. Introduce yourself to the team and show us that you love TEDxCU as much as we do!
