Get informed and ask questions
There are engineers in many different industries. They design and develop tools, toys, furniture, computers and other products we use every day. Engineers improve buildings, roads and vehicles. They also develop systems to clean water, process food and recycle waste.

Develop skills by getting involved
No matter what industry you end up in as an engineer, you will need the following skills:
- Attention to detail: Projects can be complex. A small mistake can result in a loss of time, resources and expense.
- Project management: Engineers often manage teams and work with others. At the same time, they are working to meet deadlines and track budgets.
- Communication and teamwork: Engineering is very technical and relies on accurate, concise communication with others. You might have to simplify project plans to effectively communicate with clients. Collaborating with others is essential for completing projects.
