Raised in Northern Colorado, Hermán first attended Colorado State University, studying music education, cello performance, and interdisciplinary liberal arts. Following their passion for research and culture, Hermán transferred to UCLA, where they graduated with dual degrees in ethnomusicology and comparative literature. Hermán’s interest in international education took them to the United Kingdom for graduate school, where they researched an LGBTQ+ community orchestra and a political treatise from southern Bolivia.

In their advising practice, Hermán brings enthusiasm and empathy to supporting students, with a passion for fostering curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking. They have a range of experience in education across pedagogy and student affairs in universities, having worked as an involvement advisor, transfer student representative, volunteer program coordinator, and instructor of music, writing, and ethnic studies. Outside of higher education, Hermán has facilitated art museum tours, taught poetry workshops for adolescents and young adults, and produced public humanities projects for various federal agencies. They have acquired a diverse array of skills from project management to individualized learning that they look forward to cultivating with their fellow Buffs.

Hermán enjoys hiking around colorful Colorado, reading books of all genres, playing cello (alongside learning new instruments), exploring cultural expression from around the world, and practicing authenticity and mindfulness.
