I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science. I am interested in the dynamics of political violence and civil wars. I work on topics related to counterinsurgency strategies, political economy of conflict management and the role of pre-war ideology in insurgent violence. My work appeared in the Journal of Politics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Interactions, Journal of Peace Research, Civil Wars and Foreign Policy Analysis. My first book on third-party intervention was published with Stanford University Press (2012) and second book on the PKK insurgency in Turkey, with Cornell University Press (2015).
I am a fellow at the Program on International Development, Institute of Behavioral Science and a faculty fellow at AALIMS (Association for Analytic Learning about Islam and Muslim Societies).
