Sam Boyd is the Faculty Fellow in the Office of Faculty Affairs focusing on community building by organizing and facilitating Faculty SPACE. The Shared Perspectives and Community Engagement (SPACE) project was created by participants in the Faculty Leadership Institute with support from the Provost to build a greater, more inclusive community for faculty from across campus. Faculty SPACE offers events designed for faculty across the CU Boulder campus, which are intended to be social events without agendas. To that end, Sam organizes monthly community-building events for Faculty throughout the Academic Year, including happy hours, breakfasts, and lunches around the campus.
Sam is an Associate Professor of biblical texts and the ancient Near East. He researches the Bible through various critical methods and in light of wider historical contexts to understand both the production of these documents as well as their history of interpretation. His particular areas of research include the development of the Pentateuch, legal hermeneutics in the ancient Near East, language ideology in the ancient world, and ritual theory applied to biblical texts. He also has interests in archaeology, Semitic philology and linguistics, and Late Antiquity. Sam received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago, his M.Div. from the Westminster Theological Seminary, and his B.A. from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
