Medicaid

 

Wardenburg Health Center and Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) now accept Medicaid. 

Covered services include primary care, psychiatry, sexual and reproductive health, physical therapy*, lab and x-rays.

*Medicaid requires a referral for physical therapy services. Students who want to receive physical therapy services will need a referral from a primary care provider before scheduling their PT appointment.

How to use Medicaid at Wardenburg   

Eligibility: 

  • Students must have a Colorado-based Medicaid plan, also known as Health First Colorado.  
  • Students with an out-of-state plan must switch their plan to enroll in the Colorado Medicaid program.  
  • Students with a Managed Care Medicaid plan must change their administrator before being seen at Wardenburg. Colorado’s Managed Care Medicaid plans fall under the broader framework of Health First Colorado, are intended to deliver coordinated and cost-effective care to eligible residents and are specific to each county. Please contact your regional office for more information. These plan names include: 
    • Denver Health
    • Medicaid Choice
    • CO Access
    • Rocky Mountain Health Plans Prime

How to enroll in Colorado Medicaid if you have an out-of-state plan   
 

Step 1: If you have an out-of-state Medicaid plan, you must first contact your County Medicaid office to terminate your current plan. You can find this information on your state’s Medicaid website, patient portal or by calling the phone number on the back of your Medicaid card. 

You can apply for Medicaid in a new state immediately after relocating. This can help you avoid any lapses in benefits and coverage. 

Step 2: Once you have canceled your plan, you can call 800-359-1991 to apply for Colorado’s Medicaid plan.

Important notice 

It can take 15 to 90 days to receive a letter of approval once you have applied for Medicaid if you submit your form online. You can gain immediate eligibility status if you enroll over the phone. 

States must complete Medicaid application within 90 days based on your disability or case and no more than 45 days for all other Medicaid applications.  

Most states offer retroactive Medicaid coverage, which allows you to receive coverage for up to three months prior to the date of your application’s approval. However, you may be required to pay for healthcare services out of pocket until the retroactive coverage begins. 

How to change your Colorado Managed Care Medicaid plan   

Colorado’s Managed Care Medicaid plans are specific to each county. Please contact your regional office for more information. 
 

You have the option to opt out of your Health First Colorado Managed Care Medicaid plan: 

  • During the first 90 days of your plan enrollment 
  • During the annual open enrollment period (two months before your birth month) 
  • Anytime with good cause, including: 
    • Moving out of your plan’s area, region or county 
    • Receiving poor quality care with your current plan 
    • Difficulty finding a provider to treat your problem 
    • Enrollment mistakes that put you in the wrong health plan  

To opt out of your Managed Care Medicaid plan or change plans, you can:

How to apply for Colorado Medicaid if you’re not a current member   

Colorado’s Medicaid Program accepts applications by mail, over the phone and online. For the quickest response, please call 800-359-1991.
